The shear and its charger are specifically designed to work together. DO NOT attempt to
charge the shear with any other type of charger. DO NOT attempt to charge any other type
of cordless tool with the shear charger.
To reduce your exposure to these chemicals, wear approved safety equipment such as dust masks
that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.
CAUTION: Wear appropriate personal hearing protection during use. Under some conditions
DO NOT charge shear when temperature is below +40° or above +120°. This is very

disconnect the charger from a receptacle. Keep cord away from heat, oil, and sharp edges.

The charger is designed to operate on standard household electrical power (120 volts). Do

PREPARING TO OPERATE:

First, read the Safety Rules. Then follow the “Important Charging Notes” and “Charge the
DON’TFORCEAPPLIANCE. It will do the job better and with less likelihood of a risk of injury at the
rate for which it was designed.
USERIGHTAPPLIANCE. Do not use the appliance for any job except that for which it is intended.
DRESS PROPERLY. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. They can be caught in moving parts.
Rubber gloves and substantial, non-skid footwear are recommended when working outdoors.
Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
1. Longest life and best performance can be obtained if the batteries are charged at normal
2. While charging, the charger will normally become warm to the touch.
If the batteries do not charge properly:
DON’TOVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
a. Check house current at receptacle by plugging in a lamp or other appliance.
b. Check to see if receptacle is connected to a light switch which turns power off when you
turn out the lights.
c. If house current is okay and you do not get proper charging, contact your nearest
Black & Decker Service Center.
4. The grass shear should be recharged when it fails to produce sufficient power on jobs which
were done easily previously. Do not continue to use the unit under these conditions. Repeat
the charging procedure.
USESAFETYGLASSES AND OTHERSAFETYEQUIPMENT. Use safety goggles or safety glasses
with side shields, complying with applicable safety standards and, when needed, a face shield.
Also use face or dust mask if operation is dusty. This applies to all persons in the work area. Also
use a hard hat, hearing protection, gloves, safety shoes and dust collection systems when specified
or required. Safety glasses or the like are available at extra cost at your local dealer or Black &
Decker Service Center.
MAINTAIN APPLIANCEWITH CARE. Keep cutting edge clean and sharp for best performance and
to reduce the risk of injury. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Keep
handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
Unplug your shear’s charger from the power supply before disconnecting the charger from
the shear. Unplug charger before attempting to clean.
AVOID UNINTENTIONALSTARTING. Don’t carry plugged-in appliance with finger on switch. Be
sure switch is off when plugging in.
Battery life is dependent on usage, storage temperature and time. Replacement battery packs
are available and should only be replaced by Black & Decker Service Centers or Authorized
CHECKDAMAGED PARTS. Before further use of the appliance, a guard or other part that is
damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its
intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of
parts, mounting, and any other condition that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that
is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an Authorized Service Center unless
otherwise indicated elsewhere in this manual.
STAYALERT. Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate appliance when you
REPAIRS AND SERVICE. Repairs, maintenance and any adjustments not specified in this manual
should be performed by Black & Decker Authorized Service Centers or other qualified service
organizations, always using identical replacement parts.
1. Attach charger cord to shear.
Plug charger into any 120-Volt receptacle. Your shear is now on charge.
CAUTION: This Charger can be used only with 60 cycle,
115-120 AC voltage.
3. Recharging the shear will require on the average about 16 hours for it to reach full capacity.
The shear will not overcharge and can be left on charge indefinitely throughout the cutting
season. One 7-hour charge will restore about 1/ 2 the battery capacity. A 4-hour charge will
give about 8-10 minutes of operation. Continuous charging may slightly shorten overall
battery life, but will not diminish the running time per charge.
USEOF ACCESSORIES AND ATTACHMENTS. The use of any accessory or attachment not
recommended for use with this appliance could be hazardous.
DON’TGRASP THEEXPOSED CUTTING BLADES or cutting edges when picking up or holding the
EXTENSION CORDS. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an
extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw.

A SWITCH LOCKING BUTTON is provided on the top of the handle as a safety feature. Please note
the following very carefully.
1. Disconnect charger before attempting to turn switch “ON”.
2. TO TURN TOOL“ON” (FIGURE 2) slide the locking button “A” FORWARD with your thumb,
and hold it FORWARD momentarily, while you squeeze the trigger switch “B”. The trigger has
been designed so that it is very easy to hold in the “ON” position.
. TO TURN TOOL“OFF”, merely release the trigger.
